Popular Education Consultant YEMISI DOHERTY Holds Parents'/Teachers' Conference In LAGOS

There is hardly a platform that gives opportunities to parents, teachers and students to express themselves in the language everyone understands with a view to proffering a solution for the daily challenges they are all faced with. This barrier was broken on Monday, June 14, 2021, as a top educationist, Yemisi Doherty, through her outfit, ‘De Kids N Parents’ gathered proprietors, teachers, parents and children under the same roof to discuss the way forward, as regards the social menace currently faced in society.

The event which held at the Yaba LCDA hall in Lagos did not only have top school owners in attendance, it also had top government functionaries present And they also added their voices to the matter on ground. ABOUT ‘DE KIDS ‘N’ PARENTS’

De Kids ‘n’ Parents is a non-governmental organisation born out of the passion to bridge the bulge generational gap that has created detachment, misunderstandings and lack of communication flow between parents and their children in terms of family values and norms.

Its dream from inception was to restore and sustain the past glory of family values being the first form of human socialization that is fast fading away in the coming generation. It bridges the gap between families and supports parents as well as the community in raising well-rounded children.

 

MEET THE CONVENER, YEMISI DOHERTY

Oluwayemisi Olayiwola Abosede Doherty is a result-oriented professional with over 20years of rich experience in teaching, 14years of administration and school management. She is a self-motivated leader with proficiency in handling activities that entail children parents relationship and upholding the institution motto.

Yemisi is an effective communicator with excellent relationship management skills and strong problem-solving abilities. She had helped set up, realigned, branded, trained and managed educational organisations within and outside Lagos State. She is a God-fearing mother of two blessed children.

 

TOP SCHOOLS IN LAGOS SEND REPRESENTATIVES

The event was majorly focused on helping parents and children refocus irrespectively of their busy daily routine such that everyone would be able to do better in terms of relationship. By so doing, this would help children perform better academically and in other areas of life; most importantly, character-wise.

This was the reason many top schools in Lagos came to the event with their students and some of them came in their uniforms for property identity too. Let’s quickly tell you that despite being a public holiday, many schools were dully represented. YABA LCDA CHAIRMAN LENDS HIS VOICE

Hon Kayode Omiyale, the Executive Chairman of Yaba LCDA was the distinguished guest of honour. Himself being a former educationist and a former director at the Lagos State Ministry of Education, he opined that education should become more sophisticated than it used to be because the children of this age and time are. He noted that there is a need for parents to be up and doing and create more time for their children so that they can be properly monitored. Furthermore, Hon Omiyale was also of the opinion that teachers too will have to improve themselves. ‘We have a curriculum that is good enough but we need proper training and retraining of our teachers for them to meet up with the demands of this current social challenges, he concluded.

 

LAGOS NAPPS PRESIDENT, ALHAJI AMUSA OLAWALE WAS HERE TOO

Let’s quickly tell you about the President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, NAPPS Lagos Chapter. He is Alhaji Amusa Olawale. He is a proprietor, an educator per excellence and a prent as well. He is well experienced in dealing with the current trends among children and youths. He was one of those who gave a welcome speech. He encouraged all those in attendance to ensure that they apply all that they learnt at the event and praised the convener for such a brilliant platform to discuss a matter of such importance.

 

MRS ADEJUMOKE ODULAJA DELIVERS KEYNOTE ADDRESS

Mrs Adejumoke Odulaja is the MD Goldcard Ventures. She is a mother with vast experience. Having had personal encounter with her children and many other children, she was of the opinion that creating time to make friends with children should be the priority of every parent. According to her, when parents are friendly to their children and have time to talk about every issue and challenge, it will be difficult for such children to follow negative advice from their peers or other people outside.

 

MRS JANE OMIKOREDE SPEAKS FOR TEACHERS

Mrs Jane Olufunke Omikorede is a senior tutor at the Avi Cenna International School, Lagos. In her delivery, she revealed how important it is for teachers to be aware of the current trends and position themselves well so that they can help to correct the ills in such trends. She noted that social media is a veritable tool for teaching and learning but many teachers are yet to upgrade themselves. Going further, Mrs Omikorede was of the opinion that if the teachers could up their games, correct in love and become friendlier to their students, it will be easier to influence such students and become role models for them.

 

TOBILOBA ODULAJA PREACHES CHANGING THE TREND

Tobiloba Odulaja is a young and dynamic Nigerian, a true representation of the Nigerian youth. Speaking at the event, he opined that there are too many people on the straight line and the line only preaches that youths go to school, get a job, get married and raise a family. “Our society does not give room for exploration of talents”, he noted. Parents would prefer that their children study courses they feel is competitive in the labour market. Most parents don’t even care about the talent and passion of their children. They force many things on them and put them under undue pressure. He concludes that the way forward was for the parents to listen more to their children and understand the dynamism of this generation.
