Why More & More Celebs Will Die Of COVID-19

Do you know that many Nigerians have abandoned Covid-19 protocols despite the new variant (Delta Variant) that kills faster without warning or symptoms? In the last few months, this new variant has killed lots of people; all you hear is that he slumped and died and some of the deaths are related to Covid-19.

This is worrisome and disturbing, but it’s what will continue to happen if we all continue to pretend that all is well and normal in Nigeria. Thousands of people have died of Covid-19 since it started and many are still dying. It is more prevalent among celebrities, politicians, especially the ones with underlining health conditions. The death of the former Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, was the first major Covid casualty in the country. He had just returned from a trip. His death was a wake-up call to all Nigerians who didn’t believe much in the dreaded disease. And since then, it has killed thousands of people from all parts of the country.

Why does Covid-19 keeps killing the creme-de-la-creme in the society and the people who live in the shanties and slums are hale and hearty? What City People has found out is that this dreaded disease is more prevalent in the urban areas, while the people in the rural areas are still not convinced about the existence of the Covid-19.

In this edition, we shall be telling you why there would be more deaths among celebrities, politicians and some rich Nigerians.

First, celebrities, and other well-affluent Nigerians are always celebrating one thing or the other. These people are either celebrating their birthdays or celebrating with their loved ones. They are always at one function or the other. And don’t forget that the new Covid-19 variant (Delta Variant) kills faster even before you detect you are positive of Covid-19. In the last few weeks, this new variant has killed dozens of people across the country. What we hear these days is how a celebrity who was hale and hearty suddenly slumps and dies. This is common among our celebrities and politicians. In as much as they don’t keep this particular lifestyle in check, and cut down on their parties, this may continue.

Another reason is that many of our rich men and women, celebrities and politicians are always in the cold. They are either in their car with air conditioning or they are at home or at a function with AC in the room. This lifestyle is not common among ‘average’ Nigerians. They are always moving from one place to another in hot weather and also sleep without ACs in their home.

Zimbabwe Doctor, Dr Manangazira, also alluded to this fact. She said at a point that, “The warmer months will see fewer infections for several reasons — being a flu-type of virus SARS-COV-2 thrives in cold temperatures,” she said.

“In cold weather, people huddle together and tend to stay indoors and social distancing may not happen.

“Sunlight is good for general health and well-being, so a few hours out in the sun improves even lung health. However, we cannot afford to lift our guard.”

Another point is that, in rural areas, the use of local herbs is highly embraced. There is a belief that herbs can cure anything. The use of herbs among many Nigerians is high. Many of our rich who haven’t been vaccinated don’t have anything as first aid while the average Nigerian knows what he or she can take when he detects any symptom of such. A lot of Nigerians have resolved to self-help with the use of local herbs, since the outbreak of the disease, while the rich and celebrities who don’t have much belief in the local herb are often getting sick of Covid-19.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, a few months back unveiled herbal remedies capable of boosting human immunity against COVID-19 disease.

The products were produced by Yem-Kem International Group in collaboration with Ojaja global outreach. The products were approved by the National Agency for Food and Drug Control, (NAFDAC) and were tested on Covid-19 positive patients in the country.

Kabiesi said that he has been on the products, largely produced from bitter leaf, which has protected him from contracting the coronavirus despite being in the midst of many people during the height of the infection.

Another reason is that many celebrities, politicians and rich people have underlining ailments. Some of our politicians, celebrities are nursing one ailment or another. Some are hypertensive, some have diabetes, etc and most of them are getting old. And these are some of the factors that can trigger Covid-19.

People of any age, even children, can contract COVID-19. But it most commonly affects middle-aged and older adults. The risk of developing dangerous symptoms increases with age, with those who are 85 and older at the highest risk of serious symptoms. In the U.S., about 80% of deaths from the disease have been from people within the age of 65 and older. Risks are even higher for older people when they have other health conditions.
