Who Will Gov. ABIODUN Support Between TINUBU & OSINBAJO?

That has been the big question on the lips of many, since Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo declared for Presidency, a few weeks back. This is because the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun is close to both Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is running for Presidency and Osinbajo.

It is on record that it was the timely intervention of Tinubu and Osinbajo in 2015 that helped Gov. Dapo Abiodun swing the votes in his favour.

But at that time, both Tinubu and Osinbajo were still together politically, so it was easy to galvanise support for Abiodun. But now, that Tinubu and Osinbajo have parted ways politically, many are wondering how D.A. as he is called will wriggle out of this political situation, without causing any political ripples in Ogun State APC.

As it is, Gov. Abiodun is selling a 2nd term which political pundits say he will get for so many reasons. They believe his performance in office will speak for him. They also say he is in full control of the party structure in the state. In addition to that is the fact that he enjoys the confidence and support of the party Elders like Aremo Osoba. He can also bank on the support of Senator Olamilekan Adeola ((Yayi) in Ogun West and former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel in Ogun East.

Revealed an insider, the only challenge he has been having since he came in, is from his number 1 political enemy, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who is most likely to work against him.

But the challenge he is faced with now is the Tinubu vs Osinbajo battle for APC presidential ticket.

Ordinarily, it should not have been a problem for the Governor, because he is close to VP Osinbajo.

The 2015 governorship tussle in Ogun State further made them intimate. Apart from the fact that their home towns Iperu and Ikenne are just 5 minutes from each other, they are both from Ikenne Local Government. They also fall within the same Ogun East Senatorial District.

The flip side to this is that if Abiodun swings fully towards Osinbajo (which he is likely to do), that may make him clash with the Tinubu loyalists in the states. Revealed an insider, as it is, the APC in Ogun State is sharply divided between the pro-Abiodun supporters, and the pro-Amosun group, though the general belief is that the party is one, with a party exco recognised by the national body.

There are those who feel that if Abiodun teams up with Osinbajo to give the VP an edge, Tinubu may also reconcile with Amosun, to give Abiodun, a bloody nose in the forthcoming battle for APC presidential ticket. Since the 2015 battle that led to the victory of Abiodun, all has not been well between Amosun and Tinubu. But there are strong indications that both groups may reconcile because Amosun is desirous of making a strong showing in the state, come 2023. Whilst Gov. Dapo Abiodun will enjoy the influence that Yayi, OGD and Obadara wield in the 3 Senatorial Districts, Amosun also enjoys the influence that Senator Tolu Odebiyi and Senator Lekan Mustapha wield in the 2 other senatorial zones. Amosun is the current Ogun Central Senator.

There are strong indications that Amosun’s friend and colleague, Senator Lekan Mustapha who is the incumbent Ogun East Senator is being tipped to run for Ogun governorship to battle Gov. Dapo Abiodun.

Both are from Ogun East Senatorial District.
