Gov. DAPO ABIODUN's 2nd Term Bid In Crisis

Just as Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State had concluded plans to coast home to an easy victory in his bid to clinch the 2nd term ticket this month, things don’t seem to be going as planned.

A few months back, the Ogun Governor had banked on his achievements in office, his closeness to Pres. Buhari, (who came visiting the state recently) and the support of party elders many of whom had spoken well of D.A.

The fact that he controls the party structure in the state, like other APC governors, gave the Ogun Governor the confidence that he will certainly get his 2nd term ticket.

But things began to change for the worse after VP Yemi Osinbajo declared for Presidency and the Governor took sides with him for so many reasons. They are kinsmen And their hometowns are 5 minutes away from each other.

PYO is also regarded as Abiodun’s political godfather. He is also one of those who made sure Abiodun won in 2019 when he was pitched against Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Recently, when PYO came to Abeokuta to address the delegates, Abiodun made it clear that he was for Osinbajo.

This didn’t go down well with the supporters of other aspirants for APC presidential tickets like the Tinubu Group members.

There are others like members who are loyal to Senator Ibikunle Amosun who is also running for Presidency.

Amosun has never hidden his opposition to Abiodun who he is bent on stopping from having a 2nd term ticket.

As all these were going on, the issue of Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s academic records reared its ugly head, as allegations began to make the rounds on social media. Promptly, Gov. Dapo Abiodun got his Lawyers to issue a statement on his behalf dispelling the allegations.

All of these were directed at stopping the APC from giving him a 2nd term.

This apart, he has also had to engage in several political battles. First, are the battles with the Senatorial aspirants in the 3 senatorial zones-Ogun Central, Ogun West and Ogun East. In the 3 zones, the governor, we gather, is hell-bent on fielding his own choice of candidates.

The Governor is being accused of wanting to dump his political associates, who can win those zones for him and pick new aspirants who have no structures to compete with the bigger players.

Still, on the gubernatorial race, more aspirants have come out to compete with the Governor. One of them is Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, a governorship aspirant who the Ogun APC Publicity Secretary has called a sympathy seeker and dishonest irritant. The party leadership last weekend issued a statement while reacting to the aspirant’s allegation that she was harassed at a meeting of stakeholders of the party.

The statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Tunde Oladunjoye described Modele as a rabble-rousing gate crasher to a meeting of party elders and leaders, at a state caucus meeting, where she was not qualified to attend and was not invited.

Modele has also responded, calling Oladunjoye his master’s voice, and his master is not Ogun APC.

She responded accordingly to Oladunjoye’s statement.

Another candidate to compete for the same governorship ticket with Dapo Abiodun is Architect Duni Opayemi who is an APC member from the same constituency as Abiodun.
