As the race for the Presidency hots up, have you ever wondered why many top politians have been going to meet former President Olusegun Obasanjo for Consultations?
Since
last year many of the presidential hopefuls had been going to his Abeokuta home
to consult him. In the last 2 weeks many prominent politicians met with him.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu went to Abeokuta in the company of top APC chieftains to
meet him, and a few days after, some other politicians like Abia Governor,
Okezie Ikpeazu, former Cross River Governor, Donald Duke, Benue Governor,
Samuel Ortorm, Rivers Governor, Nyeson Wike, Labour Party presidential
candidate, Peter Obi, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Adamawa State Governor,
Ahmadu Fintiri all met with OBJ in London.
Why
are they all going to OBJ for consultation? Why would a man who says he is no
longer a member of any party be the one all politicians scramble to meet. Does
he have an electoral value that they all look forward to use?
City
People gathered that it has a lot to do with the relevance and influence that
OBJ wields. He is the leader of those who Aare Dele Momodu has described as the
Owners of Nigeria made up of powerful retired generals and some influential
elderstatesmen in the North, like General Ibrahim Babangida and Gen. Abdusalam
Abubakar.
Currently,
OBJ is behind the possibility of an OBI/WIKE Alliance. That is what OBJ is
working on. We hear OBJ has hinged his support for Obi on the need for the
South-East to produce the next president. We hear OBJ’s presence at the London
meeting was to convince Wike to support Obi.
He
believes Obi is the most competent and intelligent of all the candidates.
