Was-Lat Schools was established in 1996 and it clocked 25 last week, it had an elaborate celebration in Lagos to mark its Silver Jubilee. The event which held at the newly renovated Glover Memorial Hall in the heart of Lagos Island was filled to the brim as parents, teachers, pupils, management, staff, friends, well-wishers and many more trooped in to celebrate this great citadel of learning.
Did
you know that WAS-LAT Schools started with just 6 pupils in 1996 has turned out
to have two big branches in Lagos and Ogun State. It also has a sizeable number
of employees both as teaching and non-teaching staff.

The
director of studies, Alhaji Dr Abduwasiu Adumadeyin when talking about Was-Lat
Schools revealed the following… “Over the years, Was-Lat has been able to make
so many impacts in society and when we measure its achievements, we measure it
in terms of the positive impacts it has had. Was-Lat has produced so many great
people in the society and they have been contributing their own quota towards
the progress of this country Nigeria and even abroad. We have produced so many
doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, tech-savvy individuals and I will also
put it to you that even the current principal of Was-Lat School is our product.
That is how much we have been able to churn out successful graduates that are
doing well in their different fields. And one unique thing about Was-Lat School
is that Was-Lat is built on three cardinal points. These are academic
excellence, religious excellence and moral uprightness and this is the
framework of our operation. We believe that academics is not enough to make a
total child and of course our vision is to raise a total child and a total
child is one that has all these three excellences. If you have one and lack the
others then your education is incomplete. That’s why we also go a little bit
further by providing good moral coaching for our pupils aside from the good
laboratories, and other facilities that aid learning. We have so many
programmes and activities that ensure that any child that passes through
Was-Lat Schools has good moral excellence alongside religious and academic
excellence. Was-Lat school is an Islamic School or let me say that we are
Islamically biased. Notwithstanding, we have some Christian children in their
minority and we take care of their interest”.
GREEN
WAS THE COLOUR OF THE DAY
On
getting to the venue of the event, one thing was evident, everywhere was
painted green not in colour but in dressing. The Aso-Ebi Ankara was green and
those who didn’t wear the Aso-Ebi wore some other attires but still in the
colour of the day.

WEDDING HOST, FERE JESU INTERNATIONAL ANCHORS EVENT
Mrs
Deborah Ninola Rufai is a Pastor, author, traditional engagement compere (alaga
ijoko/ iduro) and singer. She is known for anchoring many celebrity wedding
engagements in Lagos and beyond. She is a popular figure in Lagos Island. She
anchored the event with some good vibes. Her ability to flow well in the
English and Yoruba languages made her the perfect choice for the event. This
very dynamic compere who would turn 50 in December doesn’t look anywhere near
her age. She looked like a 28-year-old and acts so too. She was the life of the
party. Name the dance step and Fere Jesu would just let you have it on a
platter of gold.

NAPPS Lagos, Alhaji Olawale Amusa Stormed Event In Style
One
of the early birds at the event was the President of the National Association
of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Alhaji Olawale Amusa, the proprietor
of HOMAT Group of Schools in Lagos. He was dressed in a well-styled grey colour
Agbada and cap to match. He would later be invited to the high table. While
launching the school magazine, Mr Amsat donated big on behalf of NAPPS and
himself as an individual. He revealed that the contribution of his predecessor
at NAPPS, Dr Adumadeyin cannot be swept under the carpet.
HOW
WAS-LAT SCHOOLS STARTED 25 YEARS AGO
The
Director of Studies and Proprietor of WAS-LAT, Dr Wasiu Adumadeyin in his
welcome address revealed how the school started 25 years ago. He said that he
started the school with just six pupils on a space he was allowed to use free
of charge by the Onisemo family in Lagos Island where the school sprang up to
become the great institution that it is today.
YOUNG
ALIHU WARIS TAKES QURAN RECITATION
On
mounting the podium, one would wonder what he will be able to deliver. Young,
fragile and innocent-looking Alihu Waris handled the microphone and recited the
Quran without any mistake or mincing words for over five minutes. His
performance was greeted with loud applauds and cash spray from parents and
guardians who appreciated his confidence and intelligence.

EX-STUDENT TAKES VALEDICTORY SPEECH
Associate
Professor Olumide Osagbemi is a lecturer at the Afe Babalola University,
Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD). But then, he was a former student of Dr Adumadeyin when he
was in secondary school. He took the valedictory speech and encouraged the
outgoing students to stay focused on their career goals because that is what
will propel them to have their expectations granted. He further encouraged them
to eschew shortcuts because achieving success takes a lot of hard work.

Schools Proprietor, Dr Adumadeyin by his old students. They revealed how much
impact he has had on their lives and different careers. The Alumni group also
launched the new school magazine with the sum of fifty thousand naira.

BAND THRILLS
Alhaji
Ojulari Remilekun is one of the wave-making musicians in Lagos Island. He and
his band members thrilled from the beginning of the event till the very end. It
was an all-star performance as they thrilled with all genres of music.
OMO
MUSULUMI ROCKS TOO
Omo
Musulumi is a fast-rising hip-hop act who only sings religious raps. Unlike
others with vulgar and foul languages, Omo Musulumi sings in a way that
encourages the Muslim fateful to enjoy hip-hop music without any fear of being
corrupted. He was also an alumnus of Was-Lat. According to the proprietor,
Was-Lat Schools is the home of diverse talents.
