Evolving Women In Politics (EWIP), A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), says it will partner with the Ministry of Education and Social Development both at Federal and State levels to drive the campaign against bullying, cultism, drug abuse and other social vices in schools.
The Vice President of the organisation and acting coordinator of Lagos Chapter, Chief Mrs Raliat Abdulsalam, disclosed this in a press statement issued in Lagos on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that EWIP is an organisation that seeks to mitigate violence against women during elections and encourage the participation of women in politics in the country.
Mrs Raliat said ever since the death of Sylvester Oromoni, a secondary school student in Abuja was announced, EWIP has been trying to reach out to all necessary ministries to partner on ways to stop this ugly trend in our society.
“Bullying is as old as the world but we never had it this bad, just beginning of this year a story broke out about a girl that died in a private school in Abuja with a used condom found inside her.
“What are we breeding as mothers, most of us are losing it to the many challenges facing us that we forget our first responsibility lies with building our homes, the children are our future we can’t fold our hands and do nothing.
“The government can’t do it alone, EWIP is stepping in now, so we will partner with the ministries of education and social development both at federal and state level to drive the campaign of NO BULLYING, NO CULTISM, NO TO DRUG ABUSE in our schools.
“Because we learnt it is even at the primary level, the reality is hitting us in the face, we can’t continue like this. We call for the cooperation of all law-abiding citizens to give us useful information to work with.
“Aside from that we are thinking of ways to get counselling for our children going through such incidents to speak up, we are their mothers, we are their first love. Together we can stop the ugly trend for a better society,” she said. (NAN)
