How Lagos PDP Chieftain, Engr. Deji Doherty Celebrated 60th

The 10 Degrees events centre was completely transformed on Saturday, March 26, 2022, as PDP Chieftain, Engr. Adedeji Doherty climbed the sixth floor in style. It was a simple but classy event as his friends, family, loved ones, as well as political associates, gathered to celebrate this enigma and political guru.

Engr. Deji Doherty was full of life and he had many reasons to thank God. He also had a heart of gratitude as he moved from table to table to appreciate all his guests. He was dressed in a gorgeous white agbada outfit with a wine colour cap to compliment it.

The event was full of life as the guests enjoyed themselves from the beginning to the end. They had fun as the MC carried everyone along. He also played several games that took the guests back to their pasts.

DAMILARE SALAMI 08155134152 alongside photojournalist, Feranmi Ayoade was there and in this report, he brings you the full details of all that went down there, enjoy.

ABOUT THE CELEBRANT

Engineer Adedeji Doherty is a household name in Lagos politics and indeed South West.  He is the CEO of the DAIN Group, the proud owners of 10 Degrees event centre, a brand that is contributing to the events industry in Lagos and Nigeria at large. He is the immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Lagos State. He also has an immense contribution to the development of democracy in Lagos; serving as a vibrant and well-voiced opposition to the ruling App Progressives Congress, APC.

THE DAY STARTED WITH GOD

Engr. Doherty is a man of prayer and a believer in God. He started on the sixth floor with a right step in the right direction. His birthday celebration was 2-in-1. It started with a church thanksgiving service which was held inside the same auditorium as that of the reception party. At about 2:00 pm, guests and ministers of God were already seated to praise God with the birthday boy. It was such an awesome moment in God’s presence as the preacher talked about the importance of gratitude to God. He emphasized that life is a journey and a means to an end and encouraged everyone to leave good memories for those behind them.

WHITE RULED THE DAY

The venue was completely different from its usual look. The party décor surely did an extra job and it was obvious that she was painstaking. Every design and colour told a story. On entering the auditorium, the first thing that comes to mind is welcome home. That was because the auditorium was cool, beautifully decorated and welcoming. The most pronounced colour was white. Most of the guests especially the men were dressed in different styles but all-white attires. That alone added some glamour to the event.

LAOLU GBENJO ON THE BEAT

If you are always on Facebook & Instagram all the time you must have noticed that Laolu Gbenjo is now the preferred artiste by many celebrities. He does birthday shout outs. He is a popular gospel artist and is currently one of the musicians making waves in the industry. The multi-talented gospel act started his career in 2000 but later took 6 years break from the industry owing to disappointments. He got back into the industry in 2014 and has since remained at the very top of his career.

As a matter of fact, LG as he is fondly called appears to be the official live band singer for Engr. Doherty and his family. He is always there to perform whenever the Dohertys have any celebration. He performed at the wedding ceremony of Engr Deji’s son and a couple of other events. At Engr. Doherty’s 60th birthday, Laolu Gbenjo came big. He thrilled from the blast of the whistle till mama called.

CELEBRANT’S GRAND ENTRY

Let's quickly tell you that Engr. Doherty is many things in a person and one of them is the fact that he is a wonderful dancer. He dances like the big man that he is, no stress, no hassle but you can tell that his steps match the beat and his movements are enjoyable to watch. His entry into the reception was grand. The guests gave him a standing ovation as he was flanked by his wife to the left and daughter to the right.

The cool music from the stable of Laolu Gbenjo and his crew ushered in the birthday boy and his entourage. As they were approaching the reserved seat, they were intercepted by some well-meaning guests who showered the celebrant and his wife with cash gifts. His children were not left out of the spray as well.

CELEBRANT’S WIFE, MRS ABIOLA DOHERTY WAS EVERYWHERE

If anyone would get credit for a well-planned and smoothly-run event, it would be the wife of the celebrant, Mrs Abiola Doherty. She was found almost everywhere making sure things went the right way. She monitored all the guests and made sure that no one lacked anything in terms of entertainment. There was more than enough to eat and drink and it went round as expected.

She also had enough time to enjoy the party and have fun too. She was spotted a couple of times dancing with her daughter and some of the guests. It was fun all the way for her and everyone at the party.

CMS GRAMMAR SCHOOL OLD BOYS CAME THROUGH

One of the side attractions at the event was the presentation of CMS Grammar School's old boys. The group is led by Mr Taiwo Labinjo who was unavoidably absent but was duly represented by others. During their presentation, they spoke so highly of Engr. Doherty whose contributions to the development of CMS Grammar School cannot be swept under the carpet. Before their presentation, the group which had over 20 members from different walks of life in attendance sang the CMS Grammar School anthem. They all sang if with pride despite the fact that they have left the school for several decades.

LAGOS PDP FAMILY MEMBERS MAKE STATEMENT

To so many people, the Lagos PDP looks disjointed and divided but as far as Engr. Deji Doherty is concerned, the party is one and remains united in Lagos. Irrespective of faction or group, virtually all the stakeholders in the Lagos PDP were present to celebrate their leader. The cheers of ‘my leader’ filled the auditorium every now and then, particularly whenever the celebrant walked around, made a speech or gesture. Spotted at the event were Benedict Tai (Deputy Chairman), Soji Orioye (Secretary), Hakeem Amodu (Publicity Secretary), and Idowu Akinsanya (Women Leader), among others.

MONEYBAGS STORMED THE DANCE FLOOR

It wasn’t a political campaign but there was a flow of cash! Many politicians were spotted on the dance floor, spraying the celebrant and his family. It was indeed fun all the way. Laolu Gbenjo was not left out of the spending spree too. The big boys went to his stand to show him an appreciation for the way and manner in which he delivered his gbedu and alujo on the night.
