Blessed they say is the memory of the righteous… this and more described the gathering of family friends and well-wishers of Chief Remi Bakare as he threw a classy remembrance prayer for his late father who transited to the great beyond 30 years ago.
It was a gathering full of prayers only. IT
WAS AN ALL-WHITE AFFAIR
Let’s
be the first to tell you that the event was an all-white affair for the
children and family of the deceased. Although there was no particular colour
code for the guests, Chief Remi Bakare and his siblings as well as their
children dressed in different white materials. This dress code stood them out
from among the crowd and gave them a unique appearance.
OGUN
STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR & HUSBAND PRESENT
Noimot
Salako-Oyedele, also known as Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele is a politician and
real estate professional, her father is the late professor Lateef A. Salako,
NNOM, CON (a Nigerian academic who is Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology and
Therapeutics at the University of Ibadan). She is the Deputy Governor of Ogun
State and she was present at the event with her husband, Alhaji Bode Oyedele.
They
both are good friends of Chief Remi Bakare. They became a prayer point at the
event having attained such a great height in society. The Deputy Governor and
her husband were at the event from the beginning to the end of the prayer
session.
QUEEN SALAWA ABENI TOO
Not
many know that Queen Salawa Abeni is very close to Chief Remi Bakare. Although
she has performed at some of the functions hosted by RBB, many thought that it
was simply because RBB enjoys waka music. But City People found out that beyond
Waka music, QSA is very close to the Bakares.
She
was present at the event. As a matter of fact, her appearance was not like that
of a guest but that of a co-celebrant.
ABOUT
CHIEF REMI RASAK BAKARE (RRB)
Remilekun
Rasak Bakare, who is popularly known around his circles as RRB is a chartered
accountant, chartered banker, stockbroker, and politician. He shook the
political table of his home state, Ogun, when he defected to the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the 2019
elections. He dumped the APC along with the likes of former Governor Gbenga
Daniel. The development came as a big surprise.
Bakare
was born on April 24, 1960. He attended Ijero Baptist School, Ebute-Metta,
Lagos from 1966-1972, and Ansar Ud-Deen Grammar School, Surulere, Lagos from
1973-1978. He also attended Yaba College of Technology from 1978-1980.
He
is a team player who has been in politics for over two decades, and a native of
Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. RRB who was born in Lagos 62 years ago, holds
the traditional titles of Aare Adimula of Ake, Abeokuta and Aare Laderin of
Egbaland.
He,
however, started his secondary education at Egba Comprehensive High School,
Abeokuta and completed it at Ansar-ud-deen Grammar School Surulere, Lagos, where
he obtained Division 1 in WASC. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Financial Services from the University of Manchester, UK; Masters in Business Administration from the University of Lagos and a Doctorate degree from Leeds Metropolitan University,
UK, specialising in Accounting and Corporate Governance. In addition, he is a
Fellow of the following professional bodies.

of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria; FCIB Fellow Chartered Institute of Bankers
of Nigeria; Fifs Fellow Institute of Financial Services, UK; FCTI Fellow

of Stockbrokers, Nigeria.
He
is the Director-General/CEO of Executive Business School, Lagos, a top-rated
business school with affiliation and articulation agreements with leading
British Universities. Between 1995 and 2007 he was the pioneer Registrar/Chief
Executive of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers. He was responsible for
the take-off and development of the Institute and has to his credit the design
and implementation of the Institute’s professional examinations.
Bakare
had previously served as the Managing Director/Chief Executive of Nationwide
Securities Limited. Prior to this, he worked at United Bank for Africa Plc,
Financial Trust Company Ltd and Wema Bank Plc in various capacities. RRB had
also lectured at Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), Yaba
College of Technology, ESUT Business School and Olabisi Onabanjo University.
OVER
10 MUSLIM CLERICS IN ATTENDANCE
Let’s
quickly tell you that the event which held at Chief Remi’s abode in Abeokuta
hosted more than 10 Muslim Clerics. The clergymen came in their numbers to pray
for Chief Remi Bakare, his siblings as well as their departed father, late
Alhaji Shuaib. The prayer was quite brief but very effective. The clergymen
took about one and half hours to pray and sermonize the people and all the
activities were spirit-filled because the environment was fully charged.
