•Becomes OYO Postal Agency Ambassador
According to the late popular Canadian author, Byron R. Pulsifer, “character is not something that you buy; it is not a commodity that can be bartered for; it is not a quality suited for only the rich and famous; rather, a character is built upon the commitment of love, honesty, and compassion for others”.
That
was exactly what played out last week when the Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadanland,
Oloye Lekan Alabi visited the Oyo State office of the Nigerian Postal Service
(NIPOST) in Ibadan, the capital city of the state.
His
good character spoke for him. The event, meant to be the revalidation of Postal
Box 861, put in his care since 1980, earned him not only more accolades but
a new responsibility. There was also a presentation of a receipt of postal
services for the year 2021 during the course of the visit. The State Postal Manager,
Barr. Funmi Magaji in her remarks named the Ibadan high chief NIPOST
Ambassador. Magaji, who described Oloye Lekan Alabi as a man of impeccable
character, appreciated him for his long-standing relationship with the postal
Agency. According to Oloye Lekan Alabi, Postal Box 861 was handed over to him
in 1980 by his friend, the son of the former Minister of Local Government, Mr
Rasheed Adegbenro. Chief Lekan Alabi and Rasheed Adegbenro were both working at
the WNTV when the latter got a job in Lagos. Hence the reason for the handing
over.
He
has been servicing the Postal Box since then. Until he was contacted recently
by the postal Agency for revalidation. Which was the reason he visited the
postal Agency in Ibadan. Oloye Lekan Alabi said he sees the box, which belongs
to a great man, Alhaji Dauda Adegbenro, as a sort of legacy that he cherishes
so much and has taken care of over the years.
While
speaking on the significant roles the postal service had played in his life,
Oloye Lekan Alabi, who revealed that he had temporarily worked with the Postal
Agency as a sorter in 1972, also emphasized on the importance of letter
writing. Saying that letter writing is communication and interpersonal
relationship, unlike now that people now write in abbreviations.
