Barrister OPEYEMI AGBAJE's Role At The 2022 Ojude Oba Festival

Talk about one Ijebu son, who played a prominent role at Ojude Oba in Ijebu-Ode this year and the name of Barrister Opeyemi Agbaje will crop up. He is an accomplished professional who is the Baba Egbe, Obayori Obinrin Akile Ijebu.

His group had a very special celebration at this year's Ojude Oba Festival. As a matter of fact, the Egbe Obayori Obirin Akile Ijebu hosted a very glamorous reception party after the festival.

It held at Nurade event center, Ikangba Industrial Estate, Ijebu-Ode.

Let's be the first to tell you that the popular Lagos Live band, The Faith Music Band was at the event to perform. It was indeed an evening of fun, entertainment and uplift of the Ijebu cultural values.

He is one of the pride of Ijebu. He was born on April 6, 1965, in Ijebu Ode in the then Western Nigeria on April 6, 1965. His late parents, Mr S. B Agbaje and Mrs M. O. Agbaje (nee Olokun) were indigenes of Ofin and Makun Sagamu respectively and were Senior Tutors at Muslim College and Luba (now Sanni Luba) Schools Ijebu Ode at the time. His father became Principal of several secondary schools in Western and the Lagos States and later served as Chairman of Ogun State Central Schools Board and Local Government Service Commission; while his mother retired as Headmistress of Corona School, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Opeyemi Agbaje attended Igbobi College Yaba, Lagos and the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife where he obtained LLB Hons in Civil Law in 1985. He was thereafter at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1986. He obtained a Masters degree in Law(LLM) from the University of Lagos in 1989 and an MBA from IESE Business School, Spain in 1997.

Barrister Agbaje worked as State Counsel in The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in the then Bendel State Ministry of Justice, Benin and afterwards as a Counsel at Kola Awodein

SAN and Co. in Lagos before joining the banking sector in 1989. He served as a Legal Officer in First Bank of Nigeria Plc; before joining GTBank in November 1990 rising from Banking Officer to Assistant General Manager by 1998. He was Deputy General Manager at Oceanic Bank Plc (now Ecobonh Nigeria) and Executive Director at Metropolitan Bank Ltd (now part of USA Plc) before leaving the banking industry in June 2004.

He was on the faculty of the Lagos Business School as Senior Fellow in Strategy and Business Environment and later as Head of the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and founded RTC Advisory Services Ltd, a highly reputable firm of consultants specializing in strategy, policy, economy and management. He served as CEO of RTC Advisory until August 2019. He was a Director of Chemical and Allied Products Plc from 2009 to 2019; Trustee of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund from 2011 to 2019; and Chairman of the Convention on Business Integrity. On August 24, 2019, Barrister Opeyemi Olukayode Agbaje was appointed Executive Secretary/CEO of the Ogun State Security Trust Fund by His Excellency, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, MFR.

Agbaje holds the national merit award of the Igbobi College Old Boys Association (ICOBA) awarded in 2019 for professional excellence and the Gathering of Africa’s Best (GAB) Award for Excellence in consultancy services presented in London, the United Kingdom in 2013. He is a Honorary Senior Fellow (HSF) of the Chartered Institute of Bankers Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and Institute of Directors, Nigeria. He is also a member of the global Strategic Management Society USA and served for two years as Representative for Africa of its Strategy Practice Interest Group. Barrister Agbaje was the inaugural and 3-term President of Igbobi College Old Boys Association 1976-81/83 Alumni Class and is a member and former Secretary-General of The Sagamites Club of Sagamu. He is also the current President of the University of Ife 1985 Law Faculty Alumni Class.






Barrister Opeyemi Olukayode Agbaje has been a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Businessday Newspapers since 2005 and is a regular and respected commentator on the national economy, policy and development. He is married to Oluwatoyin, a pharmacist and is blessed with adult children.
