The Nigerian government disbursed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) about N15billion since 2015 through budgetary appropriations and presidential interventions, despite the abysmal performances of various Nigerian football teams in continental and world competitions.
Sunday Dare, the Minister of Sports and Youths Development, revealed this after handing over to President Muhammadu Buhari a 10-year football development master plan on Tuesday in Abuja.
The president of NFF, since 2014, is Amaju Pinnick, who was first elected in September 2014 and re-elected for a second term on 20 September 2018.
The 10-year Masterplan, which took the 16-member Committee headed by Ibrahim Galadima six months to complete, was referred to by the minister as "a world class document."
He claimed that if the guidelines outlined in the Football Master plan were carried out as prescribed, they would place Nigerian football on a solid foundation, and rank the country among the best in the world.
The adoption of the Plan, he continued, would address most concerns regarding the domestication of Nigerian laws, bringing NFF Statutes into compliance with FIFA Statutes, and paving the way for peaceful interactions throughout this nation's football value chain.
Dare said, “The Masterplan is envisioned to encapsulate functional strategies that would outlast the current administration and firmly place Nigerian football on the path to sustainable growth and development.
“Mr President, with your approval, this document will be presented to the Federal Executive Council for approval and future funding.
“So that the implementation of the short, medium and long term plans can commence as part of the legacies of this administration.
“Thereafter, this document will be handed over to our football administrators, that is the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, who shall be expected to implement key elements of these reports in stages
