The Ileya celebration has come and gone, but many would still remember that fateful day for the death of 2 celebrities. The entire social scene was thrown into mourning when the death of Alhaja Tawa Ojugbele, a popular businesswoman and highly respected celebrity in Lagos Island social circle was announced. Before her death, she was the biggest headgear merchant on Nnamdi Azikiwe Lagos, whom many celebrities patronised and depended on to get their exclusive and unique headgear for different parties. And some for Aso-Ebi and she has never disappointed her customers. Alhaja Tawa Ojugbele was one of the wives of Lagos socialite and one of the biggest land merchants, Bashorun Lamina Ayinla Ojugbele, the Bashorun of Ota.
Her
sudden death still remains a mystery to many, as it was revealed that she
actually observed the Ileya prayers like many other Muslim faithful. Though many have alleged Blood Pressure to be the reason behind her sudden death, it
was also revealed she died exactly one year after her son’s death.
She
has since been buried according to Muslim rites. Many are still in shock over
the news of her death, as she maintained a cordial relationship with lots of
people in the society, most especially many women running different businesses
on the Island.
Just
when many socialites were still finding it difficult to come to terms with the
death of Alhaja Tawa Ojugbele, the news of the death of Abiodun Oropo went
viral on the same day.
The
news of his death was confirmed by friends and family.
Before
his death, Abiodun Oropo was a well-known radio presenter in the South Western
part of Nigeria.
He
worked with radio stations like Faaji FM, Dux FM amongst others. He was said to
have lost a prolonged battle with a severe illness. Though many were praying
and wishing he would overcome the illness and be perfectly fine again but he
eventually died.
Before
his death, he was the driving force behind the establishment of Abiodun Oropo
Radio TV. His station is regarded as one of the most influential in Lagos. He
achieved a lot of success in radio presenting in addition to his career as a
promoter. As a broadcaster and successful music businessman, one of the tunes
that launched him was “Board Members” an evergreen song of Chief Ebenezer Obey
Fabiyi.
He
was part of the group that governed the entertainment industry with style, with
Babs Animashaun, Bisi Ajala and Bode Osinusi.
Before
his death, he was the host of a popular Saturday programme on Lagos Faaji FM.
He is also close to the King of Fuji music and one of Wasiu Ayinde’s most
successful promoters. He was also a member of the Nigerian Association of Free
and Independent Broadcasters.
He
has since been buried according to Muslim rites and he is survived by his wife and
children.
